Information Governance is a systematic approach to managing the availability, usability, integrity, and security of the information an organisation uses to support its operations, decision-making, and goals.

The objective of information governance is to maximise the value of information while minimising the risks associated with its use. This includes ensuring that data is properly classified and managed throughout its lifecycle, and that it is protected from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Information governance also covers the processes for retiring or disposing of information when it is no longer needed.
